I tend to stay out of these discussions, because of the whole "he said/she said" tenor even in the face of actual data.

I will, however, say this: my family has been buying GM since 1960 and I can only think of one failure in that entire time*. We never even get the annoying "power window quit working" or anything. I can't think of anything that we have ever even had to take back to the dealership.

We of course do our own maintence; I like to think I'm easy on equipment but I can't account for the disparity in my ownership experience and what I'm seeing here. That's why I usually don't say too much.

* our new 1969 GMC pickup failed the rear end because they didn't put fluid in it at the assembly plant. I'm sure they have that fixed by now...

Just to add to my previous post:

We buy a new vehicle about every other year. Also, I drive a new GM vehicle every 90 days. I did have one truck I had to take over to the service garage in the last several years but I can't remember offhand what the issue was.

Oh - and somebody shot a sheetmetal screw through the wiring harness on the GTO so that the high beams don't work (it's still like that), but I don't count that one because it was a preproduction build....
