my wife think's i'm over killing the nova with a 632, when there are v6's runing in the 8, sec. (buick itis). I keep telling her, yes but they have more money in that v6 than i will in the 632, and there is no substitute for cubic inch. please help me explane this to her, any coment's or idea's helping me convincing her i'm right would be greatly appreciated, thank's TOM. (DAM BUICK"S) :idiote: :idiote: :idiote:

Ok here is how I see it.
I assumed a 8.50 chassis weighing in at 3300 lbs. Looks like we need to make 1050 hp. Now, a Dart Pro 1 headed 632 will make 1050 and probably cost just under $11,000. These are new parts. If you built this motor using used parts you could reduce this price by a lot I am sure, probably cost close to $8,500 if you weren't in a hurry. This motor would be capible of being sprayed and making upwards of probably 1500 to 1600 hp. Lets ignore that and just make it a naturally aspirated motor. $11,000 for 1100 hp. I would put the question to her, what would it cost (actual numbers not her guess) to make a V6 make 1100 hp. Keep in mind a 632 such as what we are talking about would live forever also. I would venture to guess you couldn't say the same about the turbo V6, high maintenance would be my guess.

I have a buddy that runs a GN & its pretty dang fast. BUT............. its REALLY dang expensive & he is ALWAYS in it. he has throw the rods out of it TWICE now & each time it was completely trash. they are fast & they are bitchen, but they are not as reliable. He is now building one of the new Aluminum TA block motors, we will see how much more reliable they are. I think that the crank was moving around in the old block, its just too much stress on that stock block. it was never intended to make that much power.

You can never go wrong with a huge CI Motor. pick a good bore:rod ratio that will live a long time, go semi mild on compression & put a little jug through it. 1100HP is a no brainer & it will live all year w/only oil changes & bottle fils.

Turbo's & centrifugals are bitchen & trick & all, but ............... they have thier price. you cant go wrong with a carb & a big motor.

HP is HP, there is no such thing as cheating. well, there is if your in a class that has rules against power adders or CI or something, but on the street there is no such thing as cheating.

We had a "family meeting" over the weekend because I wanted to suggest selling the '31 Ford (there was a '63 Grand Prix that caught my eye).

My wife didn't have any problem with it but HOLY GEE WHIZ did the kids pitch a fit....

I won't do that again for a while....

Unless its a family project, make them buy it from you, so you can build what you want.
