Cailin,
Here's what worked for me. My oldest daughter's a pretty blond also. Smart as well, salutatorian of her graduating class. She was going to her first prom and didn't have a date. So she asked a boy, from out of town, which she had met at the beach the previous summer. He was from Carlisle PA (the town that has a lot of car flea markets every year.
So, "out of town kid" shows up and is supposed to stay the weekend at her mother's place. The evening of the prom I'm there, her mother is there, all the kids are there, we're taking pictures like proud parents do and her mother takes her over to a flowering bush to take her picture alone. I walk over the "out of town kid", put my arm around his shoulder and say "I hope you and Jodi have a good time tonight" .
He says "Yes sir".
I say " She tells me you live in Carlisle. I go to the flea market about three times a summer."
He says "Yes sir".
I say "I want you to understand I don't want her to get hurt".
He says "No sir".
I say " Good, now there's two things you need to know.
1. I'm a crazy Hilbilly from Cecil County MD.
2. I know where
you live.
Do we understand each other?"
He says "Yes sir".
He left the next morning. We haven't heard from him since (It's been ten years). He wouldn't even return her calls when the pictures came back. She was a little pissed when I told why he probably wouldn't call back, but, my reputation got around the boys in town.
The crazy Hillbilly thing worked for me!
