when I was in the Navy I got all the monthly Popular Hot Rodding, Hot Rod, Car Craft, etc, etc, etc, but they bore me now days. about the only one I still get is Car Craft & I barely skim through it. the ones I REALLY like are the FSC Mag & "Drag Racer". I also just started getting RPM & Drag Illustrated. they are both great mags. anything else out there???? Bob |

I REALLY Liked the RSE that they used to do & almost signed up a few years ago, when I had the Camaro, that would have done well in that. bob |

Real Street Eliminator. it was the "pump gas drags" thing that Car Craft used to do. but it was WAY better. it had to cruise, show, ride & drag & Auto-X well to win. a bit of interesting trivia............ of the 8 or so years they did the RSE, never did the quickest car in the drag section win the whole competition. bob |

Bob Since you're a 'blown Mopar' you should try Mopar Collectors Guide. |

I have been going through a bunch of "vintage" magazines at my Mom's house (...cleaning up...); they are the usual: Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, etc. but I have to say "Super Stock & Drag Illustrated" looks like it was a really good mag! Lots of interesting articles about events and people (both big names and not so big names) that we all know and love... I'll post some interesting finds after I get them a bit more organized. K |

Starting to get organized regarding those old magazines. Here's one I thought was interesting. Some of you might know "Braggin' Billy" McKesson - he is the deaf guy that runs the orange altered wheelbase Hemi in NSS. Here's a pic of him from 1968:
This one is cool, although I am disappointed there is not more info. This is Dick Jesse's '65 GTO altered wheelbase funny car. This car is the "sister" car to our GTO (one of the five white cars):
(inside the front cover they mentioned they were going to do a feature but it got displaced by the race results). Dad made that intake manifold; it is an Olds injection intake modified to fit on a Pontiac. More to come - |
