Bought a Dish Network receiver used off the internet. The box was sold as working. He paid $50 for it. I don't know how all that works but when we went to hook it up as a second receiver it didn't work, I assume he used a working card. It turns on, but could not get the box to come up. It sees the satellites and thats about it. He called Dish Network and the Dish rep feels the box is either "locked" or the software load is too old. Should he be able to get his money back or.........

That's a tough one, working condition can mean a couple of things. Yes it does work, it turns on, but actually getting a picture....mmmm. Buying used electronics is always risky. It might have worked at the original owners house and got damaged in shipping. Or the seller was an a--hole and shipped junk. You just never know.

Where did he buy it? If he got it off Ebay or paid through Paypal he has some recourse.

He hand delivered it to the guy he said. And he said it did work 3 years ago. He stored them and took good care of them.

Update. I guess there is software for these boxes that can be updated. The buyer told him Dish said the software on the receiver may be old. I say tell the other guy to update the software and see what happens...

Paypal won't do squat for ya...... I've been screwed on EBay before on electronics stuff..... but to be fair I've had more winners then losers.... plus I met some great people/companies that sell me used stuff directly

Something about he didn't want to pay rental the his second box or something???? I asked the same thing....

So do you think this other guy scewed him over or is it his fault for not checking out all the facts first???

He's f*cked, chalk it up to a bad transaction and eat the $50, those receivers are outdated every other month and if they can get it to work it's gonna cost him even more! He shoulda just paid the extra $10 or whatever it is a month for one straight from Directv
