Two Polish twin brothers, inherit some land from one of their uncles that has passed away.

Neither one of them knows anything about farming, so they discuss just how to make the land earn some money.

One brother turns to the other, and says: "I have an idea, why don't we raise chickens? We can sell the eggs, and have food on the table!"

The other twin replies: but, brother, we don't know anything about chickens! Do we have any books on the subject?"

Neither one can produce any documents on raising chickens. They then proceed down to the chicken market, and purchase a dozen chickens. They go home, and plant all of the chickens halfway into the soil, water them, and go to bed.

The next morning, of course, all of the chickens have died, much to the dismay of the brothers.
Then, they go back down to the chicken market, and purchase a dozen more chickens. They then go home, and plant the chickens deeper into the soil, water them, and go to bed. Of course, again, all of the poor chickens are dead the next morning!

One brother turns to the other, and says: "We are truly doing something wrong! Maybe if we write a letter to the Michigan State University, they could tell us what to do. They are smart in these matters, I am sure!"

So, they compose a letter, with all of the details of what they had done, put it into an envelope, and mail it out.
The next week, a brown envelope, with the college's return address arrives in their mailbox.

Excitedly, one of the brothers tears open the envelope. In the envelope, is a copy of their original letter with this note attached: "Please send soil sample."
