I got a phone call yesterday from work.
In a cost savings measure, our company is shutting down without pay for the weeks of Thnaksgiving and our last day of work for 2008 is December the 12th...
Hope I have a job in 2009......

Both of my brother in laws work for a chair factory here. They were told last week they will be shutting down for 2 weeks over Christmas without pay. |

We got the same notice about a week ago. We were supose to be shut down between christmas and new years, which meant you needed 5 days vacation. Now we are shut down the full 2 weeks and the whole week at Thanksgiving, which means you need 10 days vacation.

Counting sick days thats what I get, but they told me the first of the year that I would need 5 for shut down. Now they come along and say whoops, I guess you'll need 10. |

Do you have to have off the whole week to be considered your waiting week? I heard anything three or more. If thats the case I'm going to take the week before Thanksgiving off with my 5 days then sign up for unemployment the week of thanksgiving. Then I will be able to get it over Christmas and new years. |

Thanksgiving week I will not be able to collect as the holiday pay will put me over. Thursday and Friday are paid. The only week I hve off with no pay at all is the week of the 15th, so I will be getting unemployment for that week... |
