And I'm a racoholic. After reading about Jimmy in high school, I felt i can talk about how this started for me. While in high school, circa 1982, at the ripe old age of 16, I bought my first car. A 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertable. 440 4sp w/dana 4.10's. Car was black with black top, red interior. Motor was mostly stock with the STRANGEST cam to this day that I've ever heard off. Thing had the same lift as factory, 455, but duration went up from around 250 or so to get this, 312 intakr and 322 exh. CH4B intake, Hooker super comp's and Holley 780 vac. Now not the fastest in town. Fastest at the time was either '73 'Vette with a NOS 454. Basicly a LS6 motor with alum heads, or a '69 Nova that was reported a 425hp/427 BBc 4sp. with 4.88 in the back. Next was a 340 Plymouth Arrow again with NOS. First time TO a track, I ran my GTX to a 13.6 first pass ever in complete street trim. Did get it down to 12.26 with open headers and slicks. I did run the 'Vette once for a tune pass for he was set up for the Vette national that he won the previous year. Him with slick and a 250 shot, me in street trim, got me by 3 lenght's. After that the '69 Nova ran the 340 Arrow. The guy who owned the Nova has MS. He miss shifted 4 time, 3rd twice, and still but a car and a half on the Arrow. Now fast forward 22 years. GTX is in a collection 1 1/2 north of Toronto. "vette has been restored to original, 340 Arrow is missing in action. The '69 Nova is in my garage. That's how I got my name on most boards, EZ Nova. When I got the car in the mid '90's it was the same as it ws in the '80's, but now had 4.56. Went thru the thing cuz the guy I biught it off could only get like 14.30's. Fixed the card, and shifter. Put some timing into it, but it was a Stock 375 HP. 402 of all things. Later I had the stock LS6 heads ported, bottom end was stock with 11.5 to 1's. Holley strip Dominator. Reworked 800 Holley, 660 Roller, with the 4.56, made one pass FULL before Grand Bend asked me to leave due to no roll bar. Ran 10.47. Also had a 250 shot, but NEVER did get to try it. So it's now time for others to give us there stories on how you got into the game of racing and hi performance. I now am sitting with the '69 Nova a used to watch dominat the street around here. The '67 Nova that I just bought so I can run safely. '31 Chevy Pick up that the wife drive in the summer. My daily driver, '67 Ford F100 Short box. And my Harley, a 2001 Nightrain that will now be going up for sale. To have toys you need and income, don't you. So let's here it. Step up and tell how this "bug" got to you. John ![]() |

![]() all my uncles used to race when they were in Highschool........then I started hangin out with one of my older cousins and he used to cruise up and down telegraph......but it wasnt until i found out (( around 13 or 14 years old )) that my neighbor was Mike Moran......and one block away from us was Pande Talveski OF Pande's Performance.....went to school with him.....started going to the street races with Mike then with Pande and his older cousins.....throw in Steve Grebeck a few years later introduce Mike to my dad Mr Bill. and then to Steve.......back in '93 Moran, my dad and myself and mikes wife all took a road trip down to Florida for a little race called the WORLD STREET NATIONALS.....Carter had hired Mike to drive his Nova and we were throwing the motor into Mike's pinto going 80mph down the expressway on the way to Florida....Shortly after that Mike gets a HASS chassis and is the first to go 200 in a Pro-Street car...Then my dad started working with Grebeck in his shop and we met Ross Stomp....Grebeck and my father took Ross's Monte Carlo out to a NSCA race and set the new Pro-street record the stood for a couple years.....Then Ross, My dad and myself decided to go NPS racing back in 2001 with this big ol pumpkin 62 impala......Ross took it in trade when he sold his Monte and was only gunna race the impala a couple of races until his new nova got done.......we threw in the motor from the monte that had 3 or 4 races on it allready, and ended up qualifying number 1 almost every race with a worn out motor and a garage built chassis ...finished number 1 that year and set the E.T record......and now my father and myself are looking into coming back and stir'n up the street car scene with a car of our own........ ![]() |

Well I did not start driving until I was 19 and had not interested in any form of motorsports until later in life. Bought a 94 Vette 4 years ago (with a project bonus) and did some drag racing and some road course excursions. Decided road course driving was to expensive and I wanted to focus on bracket racing so sold he 94 and bought he current 99 A4 Vette. Do a lot of bracket racing, maybe 250 runs a year, and this year started index racing it in the American Super Car Challenge with NSCA. Lots of fun. I don't do much wrenching (which Jimmy hates) but love driving it. |

Nice idea on the thread.....never know when i'll need some content for an article hehe. Anyways heres my story...... My addiction started when i was about 4. Dukes Of Hazzard did it to me. That and the fact that my Dad had a 67 Mustang. He used to bring me & my brother to Pocono cuz we had some family that worked the tower for the road course stuff. So i started out by going to alot of SCCA, GTP, Indy car type stuff. When i got into my teens i hung out with the older "motorhead" crowd & learned how to work on cars. By the time i was 19 i got my first mechanics job. Also i crewed on a Street Stock dirt track car for two years & with the help of the engine builder, thats how i started learning motors. Build 2 for myself also....damn still wish i kept that 327 ![]() Right about then the mustangs were really starting to get popular, and street racing in Philly started winding down. I had been going to Red Lion, Front Street & Carfour(sp), since i was 14. I got out of the scene for a few years then came back from North Carolina wanting to get back into it. Bought several cars, fixed em up & sold them only to start new projects. Then in 2002 i teamed up with StangCrazy.com & started covering NMRA races for them. But it wasnt enough, i had always liked different types of cars, so decided to throw PRO into the mix for coverage, then NHRA, IHRA and now NSCA ![]() |
