And I'm a racoholic. After reading about Jimmy in high school, I felt i can talk about how this started for me.
While in high school, circa 1982, at the ripe old age of 16, I bought my first car. A 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertable. 440 4sp w/dana 4.10's. Car was black with black top, red interior. Motor was mostly stock with the STRANGEST cam to this day that I've ever heard off. Thing had the same lift as factory, 455, but duration went up from around 250 or so to get this, 312 intakr and 322 exh. CH4B intake, Hooker super comp's and Holley 780 vac. Now not the fastest in town. Fastest at the time was either '73 'Vette with a NOS 454. Basicly a LS6 motor with alum heads, or a '69 Nova that was reported a 425hp/427 BBc 4sp. with 4.88 in the back. Next was a 340 Plymouth Arrow again with NOS. First time TO a track, I ran my GTX to a 13.6 first pass ever in complete street trim. Did get it down to 12.26 with open headers and slicks. I did run the 'Vette once for a tune pass for he was set up for the Vette national that he won the previous year. Him with slick and a 250 shot, me in street trim, got me by 3 lenght's. After that the '69 Nova ran the 340 Arrow. The guy who owned the Nova has MS. He miss shifted 4 time, 3rd twice, and still but a car and a half on the Arrow. Now fast forward 22 years. GTX is in a collection 1 1/2 north of Toronto. "vette has been restored to original, 340 Arrow is missing in action. The '69 Nova is in my garage. That's how I got my name on most boards, EZ Nova. When I got the car in the mid '90's it was the same as it ws in the '80's, but now had 4.56. Went thru the thing cuz the guy I biught it off could only get like 14.30's. Fixed the card, and shifter. Put some timing into it, but it was a Stock 375 HP. 402 of all things. Later I had the stock LS6 heads ported, bottom end was stock with 11.5 to 1's. Holley strip Dominator. Reworked 800 Holley, 660 Roller, with the 4.56, made one pass FULL before Grand Bend asked me to leave due to no roll bar. Ran 10.47. Also had a 250 shot, but NEVER did get to try it.
So it's now time for others to give us there stories on how you got into the game of racing and hi performance. I now am sitting with the '69 Nova a used to watch dominat the street around here. The '67 Nova that I just bought so I can run safely. '31 Chevy Pick up that the wife drive in the summer. My daily driver, '67 Ford F100 Short box. And my Harley, a 2001 Nightrain that will now be going up for sale. To have toys you need and income, don't you. So let's here it. Step up and tell how this "bug" got to you. John
